Hi everyone,

My name is Denise and I have a sister Andrea, brother Leo and a half sister Christine, we were all born in Middlesbrough Yorkshire, and apart from Christine, we're in our sixties, Christine is only in her forties.

Our father was called Dennis Towse and our mother Ivy Hornigold, both now deceased, Our father's brother was Edward and his wife Rhoda, both deceased also, their children were Sheila, Edward and Leo and we havent heard from them since we were kids. Our grandfather was called Francis but we dont know anything about his wife.

I live in Australia and am in England holidaying with my sister Andrea who lives near the Norfolk Broads, our brother lives in Manila and our half sister near London.

I hadnt realised how many Towses were in the world so hello to all of you.

I have some information regarding the descendants of John Towse, b. Appleton Le Street, 1819, and his wife Mary, b. Rillington, c1814. In particular I have details of the descendants of two of their children, William b. Thixendale c1853, married Hannah Maria Kirby, and John Gatenby Towse, b. Thixendale, 1854, married Mary Ann Botham, b.Hutton Cranswick, c1855.

Hi!

I don't know if I belong on anyone's tree, but my TOWSE connection is as follows:
Mary Elizabeth SCAIFE was born in 1878 & had my great-grandmother (Mabel Annie SCAIFE) in Dec 1893 when she was 16.

On Feb 2nd 1907 when she was 29, she married a Fred TOWSE at The
Wesleyan Methodist Chapel on Bridlington St, Hunmanby. Witnesses included her brother George SCAIFE & a Hannah WITTY.

Fred was born in Wharram in 1881
Fred's father is named as William TOWSE from East Sutton b1854 & his mother's name is ELIZABETH.
Other siblings include Herbert, Polly & Ada
Anyone recognise these names from the Hunmanby area??

I'm not a direct Towse descendant, but I do have some indirect links to the descendants of John Towse, b.Appleton-le-Street, c1819, who married Mary, b. Rillington, c1814. In particular, I have details of the descendants of their son, John Gatenby Towse, b. c1854, Thixendale, who married Mary Ann Botham in 1876.

My Gt Grandmother was Ellen Towse (1864- 1938) born in Thixendale, she married George Broadley. Her father (my Gt Gt Grandfather) was David Towse (1820-1889) he was the landlord of the Cross Keys at Thixendale for about 30 years. He had 7 children as well as Ellen - Robert(b 1853-1913) m Mary Ann Dales; Ann (b 1855) m John Rennard; Mary (b 1856) m Charles S Scholes: John Craven (b 1860 - 1936) m Hannah Rooks: Elizabeth (b 1862) m William Mooring; Maria (b 1867) m Charles Thornton; and Sarah (b 1868) m George Levitt. I have quite a lot of information on these people that I am happy to share, with regards to their marriages & children, but there is one thing I can't work out. On 1871 census in Yapham, John Craven Towse is shown as a visitor in the home of his Uncle John Towse (b 1819 in Appleton Le Street) and Aunt Mary (b 1814 in Rillington). Two cousins John G Towse, aged 16 and William Towse, aged 18 are also present. What I need to know is how John Towse is actually related to John Craven Towse's family. I cannot find any trace of David Towse (John C's father) having a brother called John. Also I believe that John's mother was Mary Towse - no mention of a father (was he illegitimate?). David's mother and father were Robert Towse and Ann Laycock and all their children were born in Burythorpe. Please can anyone help me to unravel this mystery?
