Vickerman Appleby

Post by Anita » Thu Jan 02, 2003 6:27 am

I am researching my Appleby family and have come across a "cousin" Louisa Appleby (born Sherburn Yorks 1845) marrying a Vickerman Appleby. Vickerman Appleby was born in Flixton Yorks in 1844 and I cannot find his parents. Does anyone have any knowledge of him? I am curious because they are both Applebys.

Hi Anita,

I see the posting is from 2003 so you may have already come across all this, but here goes!

The Applebys married into my Artley family so I have done some collateral research on the Applebys with my UK cousin, Anne Dewing. It turns out that Vickerman and Louisa were 2nd cousins. Their common ancestors were John Appleby who married Mary Riby in North Burton in 1767.

Vickerman is the son of Thomas & Hannah Appleby as shown in this census info:

Vickerman's wife, Louisa, is a daughter of George & Hannah Appleby, formerly of North Burton.

Thank you for all of this. While I am definately uncertain regarding my links, it appears to me that I am a descendent of Thomas Appleby who married Mary Easterly, 1714-1799. Thomas and Mary had two sons, John, 1744-1817 who married Mary Riby, and James, b1746, who married Milcah Riby, who appears to be Mary's sister. James married a cousin, Elizabeth Appleby, 1778-1858, and they had a daughter, Milcah Appleby, b 1803 and baptized in Flamborough, d. 1881, Bridlington. Milcah married George Rowlin, 1803-1885, Bridlington with his father being Newyear Rowlin, b in Rudston.
