Michelle, I will send you my picture but it is rather a large file so hope it works. You can also get an image if you 'google' Vancouver Catherdral and follow the links through 'History' to 'Stained Glass Windows' Yours is window 3 - Faith. The full dedication (not on the web photo), reads:

To the Glory of God and in Loving Memory of Judith Eldon, Born
Beverley England 1825. Erected by her son George Eldon.
'Her Children Rise Up And Call Her Blessed'

I wonder where George made his money? None of my E Yorks relatives of that era could afford a headstone, never mind a stained glass window in a Cathedral!

Good Luck

Many thanks Peter6, you're help has been very much appreciated, particularly with regard to parish records, i wondered if you could search for John Eldon b 1819 or 1820, i think this was also in Beverley?

I have also been sent the photograph of the stained glass window in Vancouver, it's beautiful and what a wonderful coincidence !

Many thanks

Michelle,

An examination of the 1841 census for Beverley (parish Saint Martin) reveals the following about the Eldin family:

John Eldin
Age: 60
Occupation: Yeoman
Birth: Yorkshire

Mary Eldin
Age: 55
Occupation: -
Birth: Yorkshire

Ellen Eldin
Age: 30
Occupation: Bonnet maker
Birth: Yorkshire

John Eldin jnr
Age: 20
Occupation: Labourer
Birth: Yorkshire

Issabella Eldin
Age: 15
Occupation: -
Birth: Yorkshire

* It should be noted that the ages on the 1841 census are rounded down to the nearest five years except for children under the age of fifteen which are supposed to be correct.

Example: A person of 29 years of age would be recorded as 25

It should also be noted that there is no relationship given to the head of the household and no place of birth except for the county.

I would like to reiterate Dirk Ireland's comments about the stained glass window in the Anglican Cathedral, Vancouver.

What did George Eldon do for a living ?

Regards,

Peter6
