hi kado my records seem to indicate that mary potter is indeed related to me, what i have been puzling over for the last few days, is that i have her birth down as 1795. this would have made her only 15 on her marriage to your john eskeret (escritt) this seems problematic to me.

Hi Stephen,
Looking at the census records, in 1851 her age was given as 55 which gives a birth year of 1796 and in 1861 her age was given as 67 which gives a birth year of 1794, so the year 1795 fits right in the middle of these years. I believe that the minimum age of a female to marry was 12 up until the 1920s. As you probably know, the original parish register for Hutton Cranswick is missing for that period and back in 1992 I sent to the Borthwick Institute for a transcription of the BTs. All it states is "John Eskerett and Mary Potter both of this parish, mar. by banns 30 Dec. 1810" so no indication of age unfortunately.

Hi Stephen, Forgot to add that on 1851 census in Beswick, Jane Potter, Mother in law, was living with John & Mary Escritt.

according to
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/u/r/Hazel-Burt/GENE1-0002.html

mary's date of christianing was 9th August 1795. i have seen the microfiche of the IGI index which confirms this.

reckon mary potter and john escritt (spelt eskertet) on the IGI is a goer. thanks for the supplementary info.

I have just seen a post from 2010

I am related to the Jennison family in Hutton Cranswick - 18th century. You mention the Jennisons in a post. Also a Elizabeth Foster. I have a Elizabeth Foster marrying a Thomas Jennison - my ggg grandfather and mother. Any info would be useful.

I have Thomas father as Thomas and his mother as Rachael. The elder Thomas born in the 18 century and was I think illegitimate and his mother had 3 others out of wedlock.
