Roy,

The East Yorkshire Family History Society publish a booklet of transcriptions of monumental inscriptions for Nafferton and Wansford.

I have a copy. If you are looking for a specific name, post it here and I'll have a look for you.

Regards,
Ian

My ancester was Michael barker, ann was his stepmother.ann had a daughter called Ellen Dob 1831. She was very close to michaels son bielby Dob 1850 my gt grandfather. Ellen married a William foster and ran a grocers shop on copper gate nafferton for many years.i have a postcard from Ellen to bielby dated jan 1905.you can have a copy. I have been having trouble finding out what happened to Ellen and William and if they had any children.which line do you originate from.what area of Canada do you reside.i am at the moment looking into details on another of Ann's stepsons another bielby Dob 1810 he was a policeman and tax collected in Bridlington.look forward to hearing from you cheers Roy ,

Ellen Barker was baptised on 13 Oct 1830 at Nafferton, daughter of Samuel Barker (1788-1863) and Ann Mintoft (1791-1859).

William Owston Foster was baptised on 29 Oct 1837 at Little Driffield, son of Thomas Foster (1812-1882) and Mary Owston (1813-1895).

William first married Ann Westerman on 09 Jun 1861 at Christ Church, Bridlington Quay. Ann was baptised on 16 Nov 1836 in Bridlington, daughter of Christopher Westerman and Susannah Archer. William and Ann lived in Middle Street, Driffield, where William was a Joiner and Cabinet Maker. They had five children:
1862 George Thomas Foster
1863 Sarah Mary Foster
1865 John Christopher Foster (died young)
1866 Charles Christopher Foster
1869 Alfred Herbert Foster

Ann died in 1870, after which William married Ellen Barker, the marriage being registered in the June quarter of 1877 in Driffield District. As you say, they lived in Coppergate, Nafferton, where they ran a grocers shop. Ellen looked after William’s children but appears to have had none of her own – At least, none are recorded by any census and the 1911 census question which asks for the number of children born to the present marriage is left blank. Interestingly, William never forgot his first career as he describes himself a Retired Builder in 1911.

William died in 1912 and Ellen in 1916.
