Hi pianoman,
Yes, she was in good condition in the 60's, my grandfather wouldn't let it go down hill, but it was a very big house with over 100 rooms and not a practical proposition for anyone to take on after his death in 1968. Wages were on the up and up and that kind of lifestyle was on the way out.
Architecturally, Warter Priory was a bit of a mess; of course, I loved it and still do BUT I can understand why it came to the fate that it did.
