Thought this might be of interest:

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is offering young people who live in the East Riding area the opportunity to take on a year long, 44 week volunteer placement with East Riding of Yorkshire Council during as part of the v Talent Year scheme which is now in its second year .

v Talent Year is a national initiative aimed at inspiring 16-25 year olds to gain skills working with children and young people in a wide range of local authority services. The volunteer placements have been funded by a £285,000 grant awarded by v, the national youth volunteering organisation. After the 44 weeks the volunteers will have undertaken training and should have gained at least a level 2 qualification, as well as invaluable hands-on experience.

Katherine Stoney, v Talent Year co-ordinator said: "v Talent Year provides an excellent opportunity for young people to gain a valuable insight into working with children and young people and will hopefully encourage them to pursue a career in the sector."

East Riding volunteers are currently working in a variety of placements including schools, Sport and Play Development service, leisure centres, Children's Centres and youth centres. The v Talent Year programme is looking for at least fifteen volunteers for 2010/11. Each successful volunteer will be given living expenses of up to around £70 a week, all volunteering expenses paid and the opportunity to apply for a personal development grant of up to £1500 after the placement.

For more information please ring Katherine Stoney, v Talent co-ordinator on (01482) 392835.
