From what I heard NASA are planning to relocate to the former RAF Driffield aerodrome apparently for use in launching future space shuttle missions. However it has been said that people living within two hundred yards of the launch pad will need to close their windows and take their washing in when a launch is about to take place as I am told shuttle takeoffs tend to be a little smoky. Is this true ?

Yes- the council are issuing information leaflets in the near future -like stay in, tune in, place your head between your legs, stick your fingers in your ears. When you hear a thud take your fingersut your ears and check your preciouse objects for damage. There will be an arena in Driffield Show Ground to accomodate paying guests to the launches and at least the first three launches will be covered by Look North. Trouble is getting the shuttles from Bridlington Quey on Thursdays ,Market day for their launches on Saturdays........Eh
