Can anyone help me trace my family tree further back? I was given a family tree in 1983 at a "Witty Family History" get-together in Beverley. The furthest back (at the time) was Thomas Witty who died in 1740 in Willerby and was married twice, first to Elizabeth Raikes (married 1682, and died in 1690) and secondly to Elizabeth Smith (married 1695 and died in 1750).

I come from the line of his second wife, Elizabeth Smith, who had five children: William, Richard, Ann, Jane and Christopher.

I grew up in Beverley and all my near relatives lived in Beverley, and passed down the Freeman of Beverley on the male side, including to myself. I would be fascinated to be able to discover earlier family relatives than Thomas Witty of Willerby who died in 1740.

If anyone can help take the family tree further back please let me know, I would be most grateful.

Michael Witty

I`m not sure who you are but I think we met at the Witty Reunion. I am Graham Steer who, with Bernard Witty, started the Witty Society which became defunct in 1997. I have added to the archives in the last few years and would be very pleased to help you if you get in contact. I can give you my new e-mail if you want.

Just noticed your mention of the Witty Family History Society which is no longer in existence. I have a folder with back issues and my family occasionally read snippets, and did wonder if there is a resource of this material online?

I hold the website 'thewittys.net' which is just to give me an easy email address to use, but could park information of the the Witty Society on there. Would you like to see your hard work digitised and published on a website? It's just a thought and wouldn't cost you anything as I keep the website because I love my surname. I'm the son of Brian Witty in Willerby.

I seem to remember creating a family crest for a new cover for the Society many years ago! Looking forward to hearing from you. CHEERS.

What a nice surprise! It would be great to get a website up, I`ve been thinking about doing it for a while. Maybe you could send me an e-mail. I`m often up in Beverley and Hull and would love to share with people the more recent discoveries since the Witty Society went defunct in 1997. Please get in touch - anyone with Witty connections! Graham

What a nice surprise! I would be delighted to hear from any Wittys I contacted in the past since 1983 as I have done a lot more research since the Witty Society finished in 1997.
A website has been on my mind too and so if you have any suggestions, that would be great. I still come up to Beverley and Hull every year and would like to meet sometime if you are willing.
Please send me an e-mail.
Graham
