I knew a Joyce Jenkinson very well - if it's the same one you knew doug - is it the same Joyce that had one older sister and two brothers?

I knew her when I was stationed at driffield from 1958 until 1962,her father worked at the base as a civilian driver, alf was
his name, joyce used to go into the Black Swan, in those days
Henry Macks(landlord of the black Swan) had a son who had a band
which used to play upstairs in the weekends, you could always find
joyce there,if I remember rightly her brother in law played the drums in the band,I'd love to have a chin wag with her again

I'm terribly sorry to have to tell you Doug that Joyce died a couple of years ago. Both her brothers and her sister have also now passed away and are all buried in the cemetery in Driffield.

I was very saddened to hear that Joyce Jenkinson had died. Very sad news!
I knew Joyce in the early sixtied while stationed at RAF Driffield, she was always upstairs at the Mucky Duck, or the Black Swan, which ever you prefer. She was a lovely person, always pleasant, bright and cheery and good company.
RIP Joyce

Do I know you? I was aat driffield from 1958 until June 1962,was in the equipment squadron, spent many a night in the mucky duck, pulled a few pints for Henry, was also in the darts team, in the weekends was upstairs with the live music, drank lots of frothy koffie in the zanzibar

Doug asks
Do I know you?

It's possible that we came into contact at some point.I was at RAF Driffield dog section from early '61 until closure in April '62?
I frequented both the Keys, and the Mucky Duck (didn't we all?).
Do you remember the lass from Hull who sang upstairs at the Mucky Duck who sounded just like Terresa Brewer?
The upstairs in the Keys and the 'punch ups'started by a certain local resident, who is still alive and living in that area.
The one place that always makes me think of Driffield with great fondness though is the Zanzibar with it's juke box and "It might as well rain until September" blasting out, Frank the owner, and his daughter serving up 'froffy coffie' A 'happy happy' posting was Driffield! Wonder what happened the to the other female character of that time Eunice?

Sorry closure for RAF Driffield should have read April '63 not '62!!
Another senior moment, and it's a bit early in the morning too.

Just to say thanks for the kind messages of sympathy from Doug and Pauline1946. Joyce did indeed have a hard life and was not always in the best of health - but she did make the best of everything and was not one to complain. The last few times she got into Driffield from where she lived in Bridlington she would frequent the Spread Eagle and enjoyed a tipple or two!

I think Whitby is a great place, we go to England every year for our holidays, yorkshire being our first choice, sometimes in the dales or North Yorkshire, last year we stayed at Cayton Bay, and visited whitby quite a few times (meal in the magpie is a must) also had a day in driffield, visited the RAF base but there was little to see, sat on a bench opposite The Bell, just thought I may see some old aquantancies, but no such luck, I must say that the place has altered so much.
